En Oscillation (in progress)

Testing electronic circuits producing sound and light, Centre Avatar (QC), 2018.

An interactive and immersive installation combining sculptural elements to an electronic circuit, which establishes parallels between the mycorrhizal fungi network under the forest floor and our contemporary communication systems. The title In Oscillation references both the movement of the mycelium (forming the mycorrhizae) expanding in the soil to connect with roots from other species, and the succession of charge and discharge currents going through an electrical circuit. Produced while taking part in various residencies, at the Caetani Cultural Centre (BC), Avatar (Québec) and the Vermont Studio Center (US), the projet involved picking and molding different kinds of mycorrhizal mushrooms in transparent colored resin, and inserting an LED light inside. The '‘lighting mushrooms’' are connected to an electronic circuit that visitors can activate by touching a pressure sensitive sensor, which also light up sound circuits encompassing light sensitive resistors and speakers. The mushrooms will be installed on a steel structure that will be covered in white powder coating. The project will be completed in the summer of 2019.
